The EYCW is a 6-week-long summer enrichment experience for elementary-aged school children.
Rooted in research on the cognitive benefits of bilingualism and cultural learning, the program is designed to support children's cognitive development through language and cultural learning, while helping children of Ethiopian immigrants living in the United States preserve and connect with their cultural heritage.
In the short term, the EYCW offers workshops on Amharic language and cultural immersion, Amharic language development, and critical thinking skills to help students during the “summer melt” period between academic terms.
In the long term, the EYCW helps second and third generation Ethiopian-Americans maintain ties to their heritage culture.
the program's curriculum is designed for children ages 9-12.
